Crossing Guard Accused Of Giving Marijuana To Middle School Students: ‘Utterly Disgusting’

A crossing guard in Darby, Pennsylvania, has been accused of giving electronic cigarettes and marijuana edibles to middle school students. The Darby Borough Police Department received a report of drugs being used and distributed near Penn Wood Middle School, NBC Philadelphia reported.

A student said that they had seen crossing guard Kiara Lee, 26, give vapes to students before. Officials also say Lee smoked marijuana with a student on multiple occasions, the outlet reported.

Officials claimed that Lee and a student talked about their experiences after consuming edibles via text, reported Fox 29. The outlet also reported that a student's guardian alleged that Lee provided her child with edibles and vapes.

Lee has been charged with with two counts of corruption of minors, two counts of possession of marijuana, and two counts of drug possession with intent to deliver, reported the New York Post.

Darby Borough Chief Joseph Gabe said in a statement that "protecting the kids in our community is absolutely central to our mission."

"While marijuana may not seem like a big deal to some folks in the community, I think we can all agree that crossing guards should not be providing narcotics — even if it is 'just' marijuana — to our kids. I also want to thank the staff at the Penn Wood Middle School, particularly Principal Cox, for their assistance with this investigation," Gabe continued, as per NBC Philadelphia.

Parents who spoke to the outlet were upset to find out that someone whose job was to help keep students safe was allegedly providing students with drugs.

"It’s a shame to have these people on these corners to do their job, to protect children and now you’re telling me the kids are receiving drugs from them?" one parent, Malekka Dade, told Fox 29. "It’s utterly disgusting."
