Billy Ray Cyrus and Firerose were married in October 2023. Seven months later, on May 23, 2024, Billy Ray filed for divorce. He listed the reason for the petition as irreconcilable differences and inappropriate marital conduct. Additionally, he filed for an annulment, claiming fraud.
On June 14, 2024, Firerose responded, adding her side of the story. She accused Billy Ray of “extreme verbal, emotional and psychological abuse.” She says he filed for divorce one day before she was supposed to undergo a preventive double mastectomy and reconstruction surgery.
Firerose’s attorneys painted a bleak picture of her and Billy Ray’s home life. “Wife was the victim of extreme verbal, emotional, and psychological abuse,” the complaint alleged. “Wife was subjected to Husband’s persistent drug use accompanied with the consumption of marijuana which made Husband unpredictable and volatile towards Wife.”
Firerose denied Billy Ray’s accusations. She claims to not be guilty of inappropriate marital conduct. Instead she points the finger at Billy Ray, claiming living with him was “unsafe.”

In 2020, Firerose discovered she was a carrier of the BRCA1 gene mutation. In March 2024, her doctors advised her to undergo a preventive double mastectomy. She scheduled it for May 24, 2024.
Firerose alleges that Billy Ray made the weeks leading up to her surgery “chaos.” He “continuously launched verbal assaults” on her. He held her in “an emotional and psychological prison.” He called her a “selfish [expletive] bitch” and said she was using him.
Billy Ray filed for divorce the day before Firerose's surgery. She alleges Billy Ray's brother and sister-in-law banged on her bedroom door and kicked her out of their shared residence. She was forced to postpone her surgery because she was now homeless and was relying on Billy Ray's financial support.
Billy Ray is also accused of damaging Firerose’s music career. “The accumulation of years of verbal, emotional, and psychological abuse, combined with the fact that Husband has had a direct hand in restricting Wife’s access to income and future opportunities, Wife has developed severe emotional distress from Husband’s actions,” her complaint claimed. “Wife has had to seek psychological treatment from her therapist for emergency sessions on more than one occasion.”
Billy Ray has not yet responded to Firerose’s allegations. The couple first met in July 2021. They collaborated on a song called “New Day” together. Billy Ray was still married to Tish Cyrus during this time.
In April 2022, Tish filed for divorce from Billy Ray after 28 years of marriage. Tish and Billy Ray share five kids, Miley Cyrus, Brandi Cyrus, Trace Cyrus, Braison Cyrus, and Noah Cyrus. Tish has since married Dominic Purcell.
