Billboard recently released its list of the top 100 country music artists of all time, and anytime there is a list like that there is plenty of debate to be had.
That said, the site came up with a pretty, darned solid pick for greatest artist of all time — Dolly Parton. And while that can be debated, too, most folks can probably understand how she is in the discussion.
Parton, though, seemed to be surprised to be given the top spot.
“I just learned that Billboard Magazine just released their list of greatest country artists of all time, and they have my name sitting at the top!” Parton said in a video posted to her X account. “Can you believe that?

“Now, when I was a little girl, I’d sit around the radio listening to the Grand Ole Opry and hearing all those great big stars like Hank Williams, Kitty Well and Johnny Cash, and I dreamed of what my life could become as well. I just want to say a great big thank you to the folks at Billboard, but most of all to you, the fans, I take none of this for granted. So, thank you for giving me the opportunity to take my music all around the world and to see my dreams come true. Just know this from the bottom of my heart, I will always love you. And I will always be doing that country music.”
