What is the meaning behind the baby’s names? Here is a closer look.

Golden

Shortly after the couple announced the family would be adding a daughter, fans began speculating on a name that fit with the family theme. The Mahomes’ 3-year-old daughter is named Sterling, while 2-year-old son Patrick Lavon III is nicknamed Bronze. The couple also has two dogs: Silver and Steel.

Golden keeps the precious metal connection with her siblings.

The website The Bump said Golden means “Little golden one.”

“Golden is a gender-neutral name of English origin,” Sadiyah Qureshi wrote on that site. “It means ‘little golden one’ and is a variant form of the name Golding. It’s derived from the Old English word gyldan, meaning “made of gold.” This name conjures up ideas of success and brilliance, making it a strong contender if you want a name as bright as your little one.”

BabyNames.com noted Golden is a “nickname surname for a blonde person, someone with ‘golden hair.’ Also a colloquial term for someone who has success and an occupational surname.”

Raye

The website Mom Junction said Raye means “Ray of light; Advice; Counselor; Wise protector; Ewe; Beautiful.”

This is from that site: “Raye is sweet and catchy, with its origins in German, English, and even Japanese. Thus, it presents itself as a multi-cultural name blended beautifully with modernity. The gender-neutral aspect of this name adds to its appeal, making more parents consider this name for their baby.”

Ancestry.com said Raye can be a form of the name Rachel, who is featured in the book of Genesis in the Bible.

This is an excerpt from that website: “The name Raye exudes a sense of warmth and compassion, while its connection to Rachel … adds a touch of historical significance. Whether bestowed to honor a loved one or simply chosen for its pleasant sound, the name Raye remains versatile and timeless, embodying the qualities of its larger counterparts while forging its own unique identity in the modern world.”
