Catherine Zeta-Jones has garnered backlash for a “creepy” comment she made during an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers. While on the show, Catherine, 55, spoke about an interaction with a much-younger fan. Her story started out innocent enough, but then it quickly got worse.
Discussing her role role as Morticia Addams on Netflix show Wednesday, Catherine said she now has a “new generation of fans.” Recently, while golfing with her husband, Michael Douglas, a 12-year-old fan approached her and asked for an autograph.
“I was hitting golf balls with Michael the other day on the driving range, I was practicing, and this really cute 12-year-old boy came up and asked for my autograph,” she said on the show. “He was, like, really cute. And then I went, ‘Ha ha! When I’m 70, this cute little boy will be like, 33.”
Needless to say, fans were disgusted and shocked that she would actually say something like that. “I’m sorry??!??” one of them wrote on Reddit. Another wrote, “Ummm. This is disturbing.”
But it actually did not end there. Seth Meyers then asked Catherine, “Now, can Michael tell when you’re doing math in your head like that?”
“Yeah, he usually thinks I’m wondering what club to pick. But I’m not,” she responded. “I’m going, ‘Hmm. At that time, I’m sure it’ll be just fine.'” Many fans asserted that there was “no excuse” for these comments. “This is so grossss,” one person wrote. “I remember being a kid and hearing adults, PARENTS, of other kids saying this specifically about young boys in my class/school. ‘Oh he’s going to be so handsome/a lady killer/ladies man/etc. when he’s older!’ Like… what the actual??????”
Others were pretty baffled by the whole thing. “What a weird thing to say, what was going through here head?” someone else questioned. Another person said, “Donald Trump has a cabinet position waiting for her at this rate.”
Catherine’s husband is 25 years older than she is. They tied the knot in 2000, when she was 31 years old and he was 56.
