What to Know
Jersey Shore Family Vacation star Vinny Guadagnino faced intense backlash on social media after criticizing those protesting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in the wake of another fatal shooting in Minneapolis.
Guadagnino, who supported President Donald Trump in the 2024 election, fired back at social media users who criticized his political stances earlier this week. In an Instagram post promoting his upcoming shows, one user commented that “people are mad” because Guadagnino voted for Trump.
“Vinny, I think people are mad bc you support Trump,” the comment stated.
“What ICE is doing is not ok. Until it doesn’t happen to you, you won’t understand. They don’t care you are a republican what the people care (about) is you not supporting Trump and his administration.”
Guadagnino pushed back at the user with a heated response, saying that the user’s message was “not clear.” He also claimed the media and politicians have “brainwashed” those opposing ICE’s actions.
“You are allowed to be Republican but not vote for the Republican presidential candidate? 77 million people did. ICE deporting 3m people under Obama administration and 1m under Biden was ok but now that Trump has deported 1m (so far in two terms) that’s not ok?” Guadagnino wrote.
“The politicians/media has brainwashed everyone to believe something different is happening and it’s making people fight the police and get killed so that they can stay in power and become rich,” he added.
His Instagram post was inundated with comments criticizing his stance on ICE.
One user said “no Republican principle supports chaos, cruelty, or the loss of innocent life,” adding that Guadagnino does not “have to abandon conservatism to say ‘enough.’”
In one of his comments, Guadagnino suggested that “higher power puppeteers are causing the civil war between ICE and the empathetic protesters on the street in order for political gain and power.” This echoed a familiar talking point of Trump, who has baselessly claimed that the Minneapolis protesters are being paid.
Guadagnino argued that under the Obama and Biden administrations, “there wasn’t as much outrage on the streets and rioting because the media and leadership were not causing the chaos and sending people into the fire through emotional manipulation.”
“But why are they jumping in now? Who is telling them to? This has been going on and law enforcement has always existed. Is it plausible puppeteers are making this happen for political gain and power?” Guadagnino added.
Minneapolis has been the site of mass protests for weeks after ICE initiated its crackdown on the city. Tensions escalated after two U.S. citizens were shot and killed by federal immigration officers earlier this month, which has fueled more demonstrations.
