What to Know
President Donald Trump’s religious beliefs have once again come under scrutiny after he shared an AI image depicting himself as Jesus. The image sparked a ton of backlash, with many Christians (even those who support Trump) finding it offensive. Trump attempted to explain himself, confirming that he indeed posted the image (which was later deleted), but that it was the “fake news” that said the image depicted him as Jesus.
“I thought it was me as a doctor, and had to do with the Red Cross, as a Red Cross worker there, which we support,” he claimed. Well, now, amid the controversy, a video of Trump attempting to explain his favorite Bible verses has resurfaced, and it’s as cringe-worthy as you might expect.
Trump first tried to evade the question.
President Trump claims the viral image that was posted on Truth was not a depiction of him as Jesus Christ but was him being depicted as a doctor.

Reporter: Did you post that picture of yourself depicted as Jesus Christ?

The president has said that the Bible is his favorite book, but back when he was running for president in 2015, he declined to share his favorite Bible verses. On Bloomberg’s “With All Due Respect,” Mark Halperin and John Heilemann asked him to name “one or two of (his) most favorite Bible verses.”
Trump said this question was too personal, actually. “I wouldn’t want to get into it,” he said at the time. “Because, to me, that’s very personal.” OK.
He continued, “You know, when I talk about the Bible, it’s very personal, so I don’t want to get into it.” They continued to press him on this, asking if there’s really no verse that means a lot to him. He appeared to scoff at this and said, “The Bible means a lot to me, but I don’t want to get into specifics.”
Of course, a lot of Trump critics suspect that he didn’t “want to get into specifics” because he doesn’t know the specifics.
"So, you are a big Beatles fan? What's your favourite album?"

The clip has resurfaced on multiple social media platforms, including X and Reddit, as people continue to talk about his offensive Jesus post. After watching the clip on X, one critic wrote, “It’s called he has NO CLUE! Can’t change it manipulate it or add memes of his picture as Jesus so why bother?”
Someone else said, “Y’all… … he ain’t ever read the Bible. He has probably never even opened one.” Another critic argued that while Trump is “good at making up lies as he goes,” it wouldn’t hurt him to “go home and at least learn a verse.”
The video didn’t end there though.
Trump was also asked, “Are you a New Testament guy or an Old Testament guy?” after he managed to avoid citing any Bible verses. He responded, “Probably…equal. I think it’s just an incredible… the whole Bible is incredible.” He went on to say that he likes to joke that “The Art of the Deal” is his “second favorite book of all time.”
Based on this interview, many critics concluded that Trump probably “hasn’t even skimmed” the Bible and “has never read a single verse.”
This is not the first time people have questioned Trump’s Christian faith. He has also come under fire for his jokes about “getting to Heaven.” Meanwhile, his son Eric Trump, has credited his father with “saving God.” In February 2026, Trump addressed the National Prayer Breakfast and said that “religion is back now hotter than ever before.”
