Sesame Street’s Pride Post Sparks Another Round Of Predictable Outrage

It’s Pride Month, and some conservatives on social media are crashing out over a post from Sesame Street. Again. On June 1, the Sesame Street account on X recognized Pride Month, which sparked a ton of outrage. The criticism from conservatives was predictable in that they have made very, very similar complaints before.

Sesame Street has celebrated Pride Month on social media for years now, but each year, the posts appear to shock critics. They were also horrified when Elmo posted about Bad Bunny’s halftime show performance.

Last year, Sesame Street posted a loving message that advocated for acceptance during Pride Month.

And some people were pretty angry. “On our street, everyone is welcome,” the post read. “Together, let’s build a world where every person and family feels loved and respected for who they are. Happy #PrideMonth!” This post prompted several prominent conservative accounts to accuse Sesame Street of “grooming” children.

Somehow, Daily Wire host Michael Knowles tried to say this post was about “weird sex stuff.” He wrote, “Nothing to see here: just a publicly funded puppet show promoting weird sex stuff to your three-year-old.” Critics told him that if he thought the post was about “promoting weird sex stuff,” that was his problem.

Per Them, Rep. Andy Biggs also reacted to the post, writing, “PBS is grooming children on American taxpayers’ dime. This is unacceptable.”

This year, the exact same thing has happened like clockwork.

On June 1, the Sesame Street account posted, “Happy #PrideMonth from Sesame Street! Join us in celebrating and uplifting the LGBTQIA+ members of our community. ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜”

In response, conservatives accused Sesame Street of being “creepy” and “grooming” children again. “This post is so inappropriate!” one critic wrote. “Just teach them a,b,c, and numbers.”

Someone else said, “When I was a kid, Sesame Street mattered and made a difference. You’re now pushing a sexual agenda on kids? Really? Disgusting.”

And a third critic added, “Toddlers don’t need representation for sexualities. This is grooming.”

Turning Point USA also reacted to Sesame Street’s post.

The organization, which advocates for conservative politics at schools, re-shared the post and wrote, “This is literally a show meant for young children.”

And, in response, some people were basically like, “Yes, and?” One person wrote back, “Womp womp cry that children are shown inclusivity and teach kids to love people that are different from them.”

Someone else said, “Do you realize there’s a difference between teaching children to accept others versus telling children to be gay… your organization is a propaganda clown show.”

Several people pointed out that some kids who watch Sesame Street could have queer parents, and besides, how many toddlers have X accounts anyway? “and kids aren’t meant to be on Twitter?” another person wrote. “so why would they see something they posted here?”

For those who were questioning why a kids’ show would post about Pride Month, a few people took the time to share their thoughts.

One X user commented, “The question hateful people keep asking: Why is a children’s show celebrating Pride! Because LGBTQ+ people include children too. And they also include families with children. Is that really so hard to understand!?”

Another person sarcastically wrote, “How dare (Sesame Street) teach kids tolerance, inclusion and to be a decent human being towards other, even if they’re different.”
