After a House Ethics Committee Report, former Congressman George Santos was removed from the U.S. House of Representatives in late 2023. From there, he seemed to try to shy away from the spotlight a bit, but once a headline maker, always a headline maker, apparently. Because now, he is part of Season 5 of the reality competition show Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test.
And after he was trolled for the way his body looks in some of the promo photos for the cast ahead of the season, Santos clapped back at his haters with a post on X (formerly Twitter). He isn’t one to take criticism lying down, it seems, even if he is a bit of a disgraced politician. But when it comes to his burgeoning reality TV career, Santos isn’t messing around.

Users on social media quickly made jokes at Santos’ expense after the first cast photos were released for the fifth season of Special Forces. They trolled Santos for his body and some of their thoughts and opinions about it in the photos. Afterward, Santos posted, “Omg internet yes I’m fat. Lol.”
In a separate X post, Santos wrote, “So I’ve been told I’m somewhere between a C or a D cup if I were to wear a bra. So I guess I’m in between a Jessica Simpson or an Anna Nicole Smith?”
The goal here seems to be to adhere to the ‘if you can’t beat them, join them’ idea. For Santos, it just might work, because after he addressed his haters in his multiple special media posts, other users praised him for even competing on Special Forces to begin with.
He also responded to hate about other ‘Special Forces’ cast members.

Santos is ready to go to bat for other stars of the show too, because he posted on X defending not only himself, but also Real Housewives alum Brandi Glanville and 90s TV icon Candace Cameron Bure.
“You could not walk a day in any of our shoes,” he wrote on X. “We are humans, we put ourselves out there and we have thick skin. Now I can handle banter, but vicious vile mean comments are uncalled for…go step on grass and then watch us all thrive taking on an insane challenge and kicking ass!”
But people still have thoughts on Santos being part of the Special Forces cast.
After he posted that, a user on X replied, “No one says you have to put yourself out there and quite frankly no one wants you out there so go back into the hole that you crawled out of and stay there!”
He is one of a handful of people to be voted out of Congress.
Although some still regard Santos as a mostly polarizing figure in U.S. politics, and that may be for good reason. When he was voted to be removed from Congress, he became the sixth member to be removed from his position in history. Clearly, it takes a lot for Congress to vote a member out of their seat, and in 2023, that’s what happened for Santos.
According to the BBC, Santos was convicted on charges related to identity theft and fraud, ,but Donald Trump commuted what would have been a seven year sentence for Santos to serve for his conviction.
However, his legal troubles might not be over. In June 2026, NPR reported that the former congressman was being investigated for insider trading. Try as he might to get past his legal woes, the newly minted reality TV star just can’t escape controversy.
