4-Year-Old Goes Into Kidney Failure, Then Her Teacher Tells Mom She’s A Donor Match

Dena Carreyn's 4-year-old daughter, Lyla, was diagnosed with Microcopic Polyangiitis, which has taken her into kidney failure.

Everything about Lyla's diagnosis has been sudden, dramatic and devastating.

Carreyn picked Lyla up from school one day because of a fever, but as soon as she took her into the doctor's office, they realized it was something much worse.

She was in renal failure and was rushed into an ambulance and off to the hospital to get the urgent care she needed to survive.

But, when performing the biopsy she needed, her kidneys failed, her lungs hemorrhaged, and she was put into an induced coma for three weeks.

She's only 4 years old and has already gone through more poking and prodding than most adults ever will, and her family's nationwide search for the kidney donation she needs hasn't been successful.

Until now. They were just told the news that the perfect donor has been standing right in front of them the entire time.

Beth Battista, Lyla's teacher, found out that she was the perfect match. Immediately, she decided to call Carreyn into the school under false pretenses.

Battista told Carreyn that there was a new teacher that she would have to brief on all of Lyla's medical needs, but when she came in she got a priceless gift, and a moment caught on tape that she'll never forget.
