Julie Andrews was born in the United Kingdom on October 1, 1935. Today she turns 81 years old, and she still remains a beautiful icon of the world.
Although she's not royalty, I firmly believe that most are in agreement when I say she's fit for a queen's title.
From her most memorable acting roles in films like Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music, to her newer roles as a director and actress in some modern-day films, everything is viewed with the utmost respect.
Although I wasn't exactly in her generation, I grew up singing "A Spoonful of Sugar" and "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" just like my mother did.
When I was older, all I wanted was to be as beautiful as Fräulein Maria in The Sound of Music.
No matter what generation you grew up in, you know about Andrews. She's made herself a household name because of her talented and timeless singing, acting, and directing.
After being born in the '30s and making a name for herself in the '50s and '60s, Andrews has earned her stripes.
She's never failed her fans. To this day, she's better dressed than I'll ever be and I've got decades to go.
She was always camera-ready, and scored her most major role in 1964.
Undoubtedly one of the most iconic roles to ever be played, Mary Poppins is fit for all ages.
Her musicality, personality, and flawless talent made this role one that no one will ever forget. And she has an Academy Award to prove it.
Decades later people still watch with their kids, or without.
But my favorite part might be the bloopers.
The Sound Of Music was just one year later, in 1965.
This emotionally filled role earned her a Golden Globe for best actress in a musical.
Her work continued on, and in 2000, she created another iconic performance in The Princess Diaries. This time, for a younger generation.
I'll always love watching royalty teach royalty in these movies.
And she hasn't stopped yet, from being in animated films like Shrek and Despicable Me, to now creating and directing dozens of plays with her daughter, Emma Hamilton.
Andrews is one of the most admirable forces in the entertainment industry, and I believe she always will be.
Don't you agree?
Happy birthday, Julie Andrews. Here's "A Spoonful of Sugar," for old times' sake.
