Wife Doesn’t Realize The Shed Husband Built Is Actually A Stunning Surprise Chapel

Jon Richards told his wife a big old lie. He said he was building a shed in the backyard to work on his woodworking. The 69-year-old from Bristol, England, never had any intention of creating a shed.

Instead, Richards always planned on building his wife, 68-year-old Muriel, a masterpiece from scratch. It would be the father of two's labor of love to his dear wife. I can't help but think of widower Larry Payne's beautiful pink bridge memorial to his late wife, Pat, who died of cancer. It seems these men have a way of showing their affection by creating something to represent their devotion and love.

Richards worked on the project for almost three years, and Muriel never questioned a thing. That was until she began to notice the unusual stained glass widows — an odd choice for a woodworking shed.

See what the so-called shed really turned out to be below…

Jon Richards may have told his wife Muriel a bit of a fib. He said he wanted to build a new shed so that he would have a better space for his woodworking.

This was a complete and total lie.

"It was a surprise for Muriel and, at the beginning, I just told her I was building a bigger shed," Richards told Caters.

Richards would spend two and a half years building the 12×8 foot "shed." It wasn't until Muriel began to noticed something peculiar about the shed that the jig was up!

"The game was up when we started fitting the gothic windows," Richard said. "It was a gift for my wife — I wanted somewhere sacred and special for her."

Richards had built his wife her very own chapel. He calls it the "Chapel of the Crosses," and is a clear tribute to the woman he loves and her faith. Her usual church was too busy for her, and he knew she would enjoy her own private space.

Each piece of the chapel comes from parts thrown away from other churches around the area.

"Everything in the chapel was previously used in a church, and that’s what makes it special," he said. "We discovered the bronze centerpiece at a reclamation yard in Bristol."

The small chapel seats 12 people, and the couple sometimes holds small services.

"At Easter, there is a procession through the village, and we place three crosses on the hill where we live — that’s why we named it the Chapel of the Crosses," he said.

It cost the husband £10,000 to build the beautiful church for his wife.
