Early on in their pregnancy, T.K. and Deidrea Lauxs were devastated to learn something was wrong with their unborn baby boy.
Thomas was diagnosed with Trisomy 13, a chromosomal condition associated with severe intellectual disability and physical abnormalities. The diagnosis meant Thomas might only survive hours or days after he was born.
Deirdrea and T.K. then made the decision to continue the pregnancy until their due date, knowing their time with Thomas would be short.
In this gut-wrenching and intimate video, filmed by The Dallas Morning News, the couple delivers their son and then takes him home, spending as many precious hours as possible with him.
Even though they know they will eventually have to place him in the casket they picked out when he was still inside the womb, they take every single moment as a blessing.
Though this video is incredibly heartbreaking and difficult to watch at times, T.K. and Deidrea say they hope their story can help others understand and cope with infant loss.
Deirdrea and T.K. had five days with baby Thomas. He passed away on July 4, 2008.
Today, Deirdrea and T.K are the proud parents of Isabella, a healthy baby girl.
