We all know Johnny Cash as one of the all-time greats of country music.
But Cash wasn't just a Nashville superstar, he was also a true romantic, particularly when it came to his adored wife, June Carter Cash.
The two were married for decades and performed together every chance they got. He even proposed to her on stage!
What's more, the man whose powerful songwriting made for some of the greatest songs of all time regularly put his way with words to work on a more personal project: writing beautiful love letters to his wife.
The country power couple was well-known for their passionate and lasting love for one another.
They were married in 1968 and stayed together until Carter passed away in 2003, just four months before her husband.
Their love lasted them a lifetime, and you can see it reflected in every word Cash wrote to the woman who held his heart.

In 1994, Johnny wrote the above letter to June on the occasion of her 65th birthday.
It reads, in full:
Happy Birthday Princess,
We get old and get used to each other. We think alike. We read each others minds.
We know what the other wants without asking. Sometimes we irritate each other a little bit.
Maybe sometimes we take each other for granted.
But once in awhile, like today, I meditate on it and realize how lucky I am to share my life with the greatest woman I ever met.
You still fascinate and inspire me. You influence me for the better.
You’re the object of my desire, the #1 earthly reason for my existence.
I love you very much.
Happy Birthday Princess. John
Johnny Cash first fell in love with June Carter when he toured with her family band, the Carter Family.
As a girl, she performed with her mother and sisters as Mama Maybelle and the Carter Sisters. Eventually the group teamed up with Cash, a rising country powerhouse.
They toured and worked together for 13 years before Carter and Cash took the next step and married.
After their marriage, they were inseparable; it was a love story for the ages.
He was married once before and she was married twice, but for each, the marriage to one another was the charm.
They had one child, and their love lasted for 35 years until Carter passed away from complications of heart disease.
Cash followed just four months after. We imagine his world just wasn't the same without his "Princess."
