Bob Staranowicz was a soldier in Vietnam, and while he was in combat, he stumbled upon the Kim Long Orphanage, which became his refuge from the battlefield. He and other soldiers would come to the orphanage to play and entertain the kids and give them little gifts from America.
Once the war was over, Bob went home, just like all the other Americans — but he never forgot about the kids, or the orphanage.
And someone else, who was there at the same time as Bob was, didn’t either.
Laura Satira was one of the orphans Bob played with and took care of in that Vietnamese orphanage, and she had never been able to put the memories from that time out of her head.
And then, 47 years later, Laura found Bob on Facebook.
Not believing it was actually him, she decided to message him. And after talking, they decided they had to meet.
After Laura’s car drove up to Bob’s house and they shared a huge hug, the two could barely recognize each other after 47 years. And they immediately started making up for lost time.
They shared stories about what happened after to each other after they left Vietnam over glasses of wine. They flipped through many photo albums from the war and their lives, as two people who share a special bond were reunited once again.
