Baby Is Born With Deformed Legs, Then The Doctors Tell The Parents He Won’t Survive

When Cody McCasland was born, his legs weren’t straight and he was missing toes on both of his feet. His parents were also told he wouldn’t survive even one day, and that they should “prepare to say goodbye to him.”

But that was 14 years ago now, and Cody has proven every single one of his doctors wrong.

Cody has had 27 surgeries total in his short life. His legs were amputated at 15 months old, and he learned to walk on prosthetic legs at 18 months old, which his doctors never believed he would do.

And with just one vocal cord, they didn’t think he would learn to talk either, but he did.

Cody was active from a very young age, and learned to love running and swimming fairly quickly. He liked running at first because his legs were bouncy and were easy to move on. And then he moved on to more swimming and has brought home quite a few medals.

He even got to meet his hero, Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps, in 2012 at the Olympic Training Center, and then Phelps came to one of Cody’s races to wish him luck.

That gave him the push he needed to go after Phelps’ swimming records as Cody trains for the 2016 Paralympic Trials five days a week.
