Breastfeeding moms know that when their babies are hungry, there's nothing they can do to make them wait for their nourishment. It doesn't matter where or when: As soon as a baby needs to be fed, the mother stops what she's doing to make sure the child gets what he or she needs.
One mother, Jennifer Burman, already has a lot on her plate raising three young children, including a baby just a few months old. But she's not letting this slow her down: Burman is also a member of the U.S. Coast Guard, having enlisted at the age of 18. She also just graduated from college, studying throughout her pregnancies to make this dream come true.
So it was only appropriate that to celebrate her major milestone, she slipped off half her gown to breastfeed minutes after graduating. The image of the mother in cap and gown (and in such a pose) has inspired many moms and is getting tons of attention for its positive message!
Hi, my name is Jenny. I'm 25 and I have finally graduated college #withhonors. At 18, I enlisted into the United States Coast Guard. This was the beginning of my career. This is where I met my best friend. And I married him.
Soon we welcomed our eldest son. Meer [sic] weeks after giving birth, I was give orders for deployment. In this moment, I knew it was no longer about me. My enlistment period was ending and that's when I left my stable career to care for a life bigger then my own. I began college.
And at each step of life I never stopped. I remember being in labor with our daughter and juggling a 4-class course load hours later.
My husband left on a year-long deployment. And still with three kids I continued my education. The sleepless nights (as if the two toddlers and a new born didn't do that already). The stacked-up books. The "I'm sorry I can't, I need to finish these papers." All those moments finally lead [sic] up to this.
I'm proud of myself. Because I didn't think it was possible. Yet here I am. Living proof. That if you want something. That with enough determination, perseverance, willingness to succeed, you truly can achieve anything.
Babies wait for no one when it comes to food. But let's be honest, neither do I. As any mom would do, I prepared for a day like today. I had bottles filled to the rim with breast milk ready to go. I even had nursing pads in my bra, knowing damn well I'd leak through without them. Even with all that planning, he only wanted me. A blissful thing, really. He's my last baby. And I'm enjoying every moment I can. #normalizebreastfeeding
