Mom Warned Her There Would Be Blood, But Allows 4-Year-Old Daughter To Watch Her Give Birth

Watching the miracle of birth is often an experience reserved for adults or unwilling teenagers in Sex Ed.

However, for British mom Vivien Peppit, witnessing a birth is something that can be done by a preschooler. On This Morning talk show, she explains why she let her four-year-old daughter Jessica watch her give birth to Jessica's now little brother.

Apparently it was Jessica who asked to be present for the birth. Vivien explains that she prepared her by watching videos of women giving birth and was very honest with her about what kind of scene she was going to be witnessing.

"I didn't lie, I told her there was going to be blood and shouting so it wasn't a shock because of that," says Vivien.

She continues to defend her choice by saying it was an "amazing" bonding experience between Jessica and her little brother. "She was the first person to hold him and now their bond is amazing."

Moreover, Vivien says it was a "calming experience" having her daughter present during the birth, which took place at home and was "a very quick labor."

As much of a case as Vivien might seem to be making, not everyone agrees that having a child present during a birth is the way to go.

Journalist Martin Daubney, for instance, strongly disagrees. He says that the risk of something going wrong is too great to expose a child to.
