Comedian’s Dog Dies, Then He Locks Himself In A Shelter Dog’s Cage For 3 Days To Help Rescues

French comedian Remi Gaillard is known for his online pranks and wild sense of humor. But his recent stunt was anything but a practical joke.

Gaillard is also an animal rights activist and decided to do something over-the-top to raise awareness about shelter dogs. A dog lover himself, he teamed up with Société Protectrice des Animaux (SPA) in France.

Unbelievably, Gaillard committed to locking himself in a cage for 87 hours in hopes of raising $71,871 and getting all 300 dogs at the shelter adopted.

But his stunt proved more successful than expected: The comedian raised $287,750 to support shelter animals and got 200 of the animals into forever homes.

Gaillard's own recent loss inspired the selfless act. His dog and companion recently passed away. Knowing all that his best friend gave him, he knew he had to give it back.

“I know what my doggy gave me and I want to give it back to all of them, because I know how loyal and selfless they are,” Gaillard says in the video. "And I hope that from above he is proud because this is for him and all of his congeners."

While shelters can give stray dogs the help and support they need, it is no comparison to the love they can get from a permanent human companion.
