It happened in an instant. A blinding, hot flash pierced up toward the glittering night sky.
Jennifer Dixon was driving along the Harrisburg Pike with her niece and mom, Marvis, over the weekend.
The road was shrouded in darkness, making it difficult to see the bends ahead.
As they drew closer to a turn in the road, the car in front of them lost control, flipping into the air and crashing into the embankment. Flames immediately shot out from underneath and engulfed the vehicle.
Without thinking twice, Jennifer lurched her car to a halt.
“All I kept thinking to myself is, ‘These are kids in this car,’ which they were. They were 18 and 19, so they were kids,” recalls Jennifer in an interview with WGAL. “And I just was determined to help get them out.”
She rushed to the driver’s side of the car and began kicking in the window with as much power as she could muster.
After about three tries, it finally shattered, and she quickly grasped the arms of the driver and pulled him from the wreckage. The driver's legs were on fire, so Marvis whipped off her jacket and patted them down until she extinguished the flames.
Meanwhile, a neighbor heard the commotion and came to the aid of the other passenger, freeing him from the billowing smoke. Both victims are being treated at a local hospital, but Jennifer looks forward to meeting them once they've fully recovered.
