Coroner Goes To Embalm Dead Dad, Then His Feet Start To Kick In The Body Bag

It sounds like the stuff of a movie, but coroners at Porter and Sons Funeral Home in Lexington, MS, got a shocking surprise.

In 2014, Walter Williams died. He was placed in a body bag. The coroner checked his pulse and officially pronounced him a deceased man.

"I stood there and watched them put him in a body bag and zipped it up," Williams' nephew, Eddie Hester, said.

Williams was transported to a funeral home, but when the workers were ready to embalm him, he started to move. His feet were kicking to get out.

Walter Williams was alive.

"I asked the coroner what happened, and the only thing he could say is that it's a miracle," Holmes County Sheriff Willie March said.

Byron Porter of the funeral home said it was the first time he had ever seen anything like it. As you might imagine, Williams' family was ecstatic to have him back, even if they knew his time on Earth was fleeting.

"My cousin called me and said, 'Not yet,' and I said, 'What you mean not yet?' He said, 'Daddy still here,'" Hester said.

Paramedics rushed to transport Williams to the hospital. The coroner believes the father's pacemaker must have stopped working and then started again, bringing him back to life. This comes as no shock to the family, who said Williams, a longtime farmer and education administrator, has always been a fighter.

"I don't know how long he's going to be here, but I know he's back right now. That's all that matters," said his daughter, Martha Lewis.
