Madison and Luis spoke a few times before they finally decided to go on a date. Madison was immediately smitten with Luis, who had a lot in common with her.
The two quickly became a couple, and have done a lot of fun activities together ever since their first date. They love to go rock climbing, so when Luis suggested they go one evening, Madison didn't think twice about it.
Luis and Madison went to the rock gym around 9:30 p.m. one night. Since the gym closes at 11 p.m., Madison figured they would just do a bit of climbing then head home. Five minutes before the gym closed, Madison was ready to head out, but Luis told her she should do one more climb. She agreed, and climbed up the route.
"When I got to the top, Luis yells, 'Are you at the top?' way louder than we would have needed to for just me to hear him," Madison told How He Asked. "As soon as he yelled that, all of the lights in the whole place shut off."
Madison thought the power had gone out in the building, but then she saw people moving around beneath her. Luis was holding her at the top of the rock wall, and that's when she realized something special was happening.
"Our friends hurried and hung up 100+ feet of twinkly Christmas lights and scattered red and white fresh rose petals all over the ground. 'First Day of My Life' by Bright Eyes (our song) was playing over the sound system in the gym. As soon as the lights turned on, I felt like my heart was going to explode. It was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen and it was all for me. Like, what??
"Luis lowered me down and got down on one knee in the middle of the lights and rose petals and asked me to be his wife in front of all of our closest friends at one of the places where we’ve spent so much time together doing what we love."
