Riding the public bus can be anything but glamorous or inspiring. However, one Pittsburgh Port Authority bus driver has transformed his bus just in time for the holidays.
Driver Bill Sanfilippo had already scored a reputation as "The Candyman." In previous years he used to leave a bucket of candy on the bus for passengers to snack on.
“I used to bring a big bucket of candy and I used to hang it on the rails and everybody used to eat candy on all my routes,” Sanfilippo told KDKA.
Each year for Christmas for the past decade, Sanfilippo has decorated his bus for Christmas, but this year he has gone all out. He strategically looked for decorations, lights, and gadgets at stores and flea markets all year long.
It's a lot of work, and he spends months getting everything ready for the big transformation, but for the bus driver it's all worth it.
Sanfilippo loves Christmas, but what he loves even more is giving his passengers a little taste of joy on their commute.
“There’s a lot of bad things going on around the world, so if they get into the spirit, it gets their mind off all the bad things, that’s what I see, its only once a year, so hopefully they celebrate it,” he says.
The driver plans on continuing the tradition for the foreseeable future and is already thinking of new ways to outdo himself.
