Thief Snatches Disabled Man’s Only Source Of Freedom, Then Stranger Surprises Him With New Trike

Like the painful moments of a bird realizing its wings have just been clipped, Nick Carter woke one morning to find his only source of independence had been snatched away from him.

Nick Carter lived a normal life until 16 years ago, when a tragic bike accident left him with the inability to ride a standard bicycle. Instead, he'd been living life on the edge of the seat of his bright red, customized tricycle for adults. The trike served as his only source of freedom for over the past decade, and it was gone.

“To take my boy’s only freedom?” Rob Carter exclaims, shaking his head in a combination of disbelief and disapproval, “That’s tough.”

His mom, Cathy, mentioned that Nick had a terrible time coping with the news that day, and that they couldn't believe anyone could do that. But Nick's heartbreak wasn't going to last long.

After the story was broadcast on Tuesday, September 6th, Nick's heart wasn't the only one aching. Ron Harris decided he had to do something to remedy the situation.

"I'll help anybody I can, when I can," said Ron Harris. "This one really struck a nerve with me because I thought, 'You know, it's not only therapy, but, you know, he's out trying to get exercise and freedom.'"

He called up a company and ordered a red tricycle with a white basket, just like the one stolen from Nick. When Nick found out his new trike was on his way, he was so excited that he strapped on his helmet and waited an hour before Ron's truck pulled into their driveway on Thursday.

When he was asked if he liked it, he charmingly responded as he admired his new freedom, "Yes, ma'am – of course! I mean, how is this something to hate? Honestly." Nick's family will treasure Ron's kindness the way Nick treasures his trike. This story is an incredible reminder that doing something small for someone else can impact their world immensely.
