Kids Thought They Wouldn’t Have A Good Christmas, Then Cops Stepped In To Help

In any community, police officers are the ones doing the most to keep us safe. They do it on a daily basis and we never hear any complaints from them.

And one police force in St. Paul, MN is stepping up their game by getting to know their community in a very unique way. They take kids Christmas shopping at the annual Shop With A Cop Event.

The event was created so that police officers could get to know the people in their community more, especially the kids.

So every year, the St. Paul police load up cart after cart at different stores and zoom hundreds of kids through the aisles to pick out Christmas presents for their parents and siblings.

The day begins with each kid making a wish list for their family members. Each cop is then assigned a child to go shopping with and the two cross off the items on the list.

And at the end, everyone gets together for a huge pizza party to wrap the gifts they bought and to also get to know each other better.

This year, over 300 kids joined 200 police volunteers on their 17th annual shopping trip and they said that this event was more important now than ever.

“It’s important to build relationships with our community members throughout our entire city,” said Police Chief Todd Axtell. “This is just another opportunity to build trust and relationships that last a lifetime in the life of our young kids in our community.”
