10 Things You Should Never Have To Sacrifice For A Significant Other

New relationships can be an exciting and thrilling ride, but you always have to be careful that you don't lose yourself in them.

Yes, relationships require a certain amount of sacrifice and compromise in order to make it to the end. But that doesn't mean there aren't boundaries to be drawn.

I've seen many people get sucked into unhealthy relationships, making unnecessary sacrifices and losing sight of what they wanted out of the relationship to begin with.

These 10 things should never ever be sacrificed in the name of a relationship, new or old. If you're with the right person, they will take these 10 things exactly as they are, and they will love you even more for them.

Have you ever given up any of these things for a man or a woman in your life? What else would you refuse to sacrifice for a relationship? Let us know in the comments.

You should never let anyone take you away from your family. If the one you love doesn't want to spend time with your relatives, that doesn't mean you have to stop seeing them. Family comes first.

2. Never Give Up Your Brains

You should never hide your smarts in the presence of your other half. Some people have been led to believe that intelligence is intimidating. First of all, it isn't intimidating if you're with the right person.

Second of all, if your intelligence does intimidate someone, then that's on them, not you.

3. Never Give Up Your Sense Of Style

If they don't like how you dress, then that's just too darn bad. If they can't see past a kooky sweatshirt or a goofy pair of pants, then they simply don't deserve you and your amazing individual style.

4. Never Give Up Your Perspective

Never lose sight of your own life view and the direction that you're headed. It's never good to get so wrapped up in a relationship with one person that you can't step back and see it from the outside.

If you do lose perspective, that's when you might wake up to find you've wasted years in an unhealthy relationship.

5. Never Give Up Your Confidence

Your confidence isn't up for grabs, and no one should ever be able to take it away from you. If your significant other is chipping away at your confidence and your pride, just snatch it back as soon as you realize what they're doing, then leave that person in the dust.

6. Never Give Up Your Religion

You don't necessarily have to be the same religion, but you should be able to comfortably live with one another's beliefs in peace. You can't just disregard an entire belief system for one person, especially if they are asking you to, because that means that they don't value your faith.

7. Never Give Up Your Friends

By a certain point in life, the friends you have are the ones that are there for the long haul. They want what's best for you, and they know you better than some new partner does.

If your partner asks you to ditch your friends in favor of them, I think you know what the right choice is.

8. Never Give Up Your Preferred Eating Habits

This goes for cake, chocolate, pizza, or any other delicious foods that might prevent you from shedding pounds for the sake of someone else.

Whether your spouse or significant other has explicitly asked you to lose weight or not, you should never change your diet for someone else. You should focus on a healthy, balanced diet when it's for your health, or if you want to do it for your own happiness.

9. Never Give Up Your Individuality

Even if that special someone makes you feel complete, don't forget that you've always been complete; you've always been a whole person. Your partner may bring you buckets of joy, but don't forget to cultivate your own individuality, separate from your relationship.

Don't give up what makes you unique for the sake of a relationship.

10. Never Give Up Your Kindness

If your partner is turning you into a mean person who says, thinks, and does malicious things, you've either got to get out of the relationship, or find what's making you so angry and work through it with your partner.

The moment you become disrespectful of each other is the moment you need to reevaluate your situation.
