It's hard to feel empathy for people we don't know. We hear about so many horrors on the news, and yet most of us don't move a finger to help people who may be in need. We are somehow more capable of feeling empathy for people who are close to us, or who have similar experiences to ours.
That's perhaps why a widow named Mary decided to help a homeless man she's never met in her life, and who lives many miles away from her.
70-year-old Ronnie Brown was found by an NYPD cop, homeless and suffering from diabetes and in pain. He gave him a special pair of socks, and it wasn't long before Ronnie's story made it on the news, even in Connecticut, where Mary lives.
Mary saw the look on Ronnie's face — how sincerely appreciative he was of the gift — and decided that she, too, needed to help him.
His story resonated with her particularly because his mother recently passed away. For Mary, this is an emotional time of year, as she is coping with her husband's death.
Mary got the NYPD to track Ronnie down. She bought him a plane ticket to attend his mother's funeral, and a clothing store even gave him the clothes for it.
She says that it's her goal to get him off the streets for good!
Please SHARE if you know that, with Mary's help, Ronnie will definitely be able to get back on his feet in no time!
