Martyn Hett and his mom, Figen, are extremely close. And like a good son, he often checks in with her to see how she is.
Figen is a counselor by day and crafter by night and believes that knitting is therapeutic; she often turns to knitting because she believes that being creative is good for the soul. So she hand-knits dozens of crafts from glove monsters to teddy bears and hearts.
But she doesn’t want to keep everything she makes. Instead, she recently rented a stall at a local craft fair so she could sell her designs.
She was extremely hopeful that she would have a few customers, especially since she had prepared a whole table of items that would make great stocking stuffers for Christmas.
She sat at the fair patiently, but sadly, no one was coming by.
Martyn happened to text her while she was there and she replied saying that no one was buying anything. This made him incredibly upset, but then he had an idea.
Instead of just reaching the people at the craft fair, Martyn reached out to the entire world on his Twitter account.
Martyn tweeted a picture of his mom’s stall and explained how much someone buying her crafts would mean to her. And then, Figen’s Depop shop, Imperfect Hearts, literally went viral with dozens of orders pouring in from all over Twitter.
Now instead of having too many knitted things hanging around, Figen has so many orders she's had to restock her crafting supplies. She's also had dozens of messages from people just commenting on her items.
“She’s had loads of messages from people just telling her how nice her stuff is, which was nice for her because I think the craft fair had knocked her confidence a bit,” Martyn said.
And since she's been so successful on Twitter, she's also donating her proceeds to her local charity, Beacon Counselling.

Like a good son does, Martyn Hett likes to check in with his mom, Figen, to see how she’s doing. But one day, her reply broke her son's heart.
Martyn’s mom was at a craft fair, and sadly, no one had bought a single one of her hand-made knitted crafts. Martyn wanted to help, and since he couldn’t be there, he tweeted about it and it got people’s attention.
Soon, requests starting coming in from all over Twitter.
First there was one, then 10, then hundreds. They started pouring in so fast, Figen could barely keep up with all of them.
And just like that, Figen completely sold out of her entire stock for the first time ever in a little under a day.
Figen was so impressed with her son's ingenuity, and her fantastic sales, that she bought herself a book on Twitter so she could reach even more people and grow her number of customers.
And now that Figen has had more Twitter fame than she ever thought she would have, she’s had to completely restock her crafting supplies! So thanks to Martyn and his tweets, she'll be busier than ever for quite awhile.
