The role of a parent can be defined differently, depending on who you talk to. While there is no "right" way to parent, it all boils down to the love you give a child, whether they're yours biologically or not.
This past holiday season, 25-year-old Krystle Smith had a special gift prepared for her stepfather. The man had raised her since she was 6 months old. She considers him to be her father, but it was time to make it official in the eyes of the law.
There was just one problem: she couldn't pull up the official papers in time.
Instead, she found fake adult adoption papers so she would have something to present to her dad during the gift exchange. She packed them in a box with a touching letter, which he read out loud.
In it, she told him how much he meant to her and how much she appreciated how he raised her despite the fact that they are not biologically related.
After he tore open the packaging, he broke down in tears: he saw the words "adult adoption" and was incredibly moved by the gesture. It didn't matter that the papers were fake; it was the thought that counts! He knew he would sign the real papers very soon.
