One thing that will always tug at our heartstrings is the return of our loved ones. Whether it's a soldier surprising his wife at a football game, or a big brother returning from overseas, these reunions are so genuine and heartwarming because they are so real and relatable. Here we have another video of a heartwarming reunion, where a soldier surprises his son.
First Sergeant Dominic Flores has spent 20 years in the Arizona Air National Guard and 17 years in the Tucson Police Department. Most recently, he was deployed overseas on a mission, and hadn't seen his family in six months, including his son, Diego.
Then, on Wednesday, January 25, he returned home with other members of the 162nd wing, and though he wanted desperately to see Diego and his little brother, he urged his wife not to talk about them when she picked him up from the airport.
He didn't want to see them. Not yet, anyway, because then that would ruin the surprise he had been working on for months.
Instead, in a gathering at Diego's school's auditorium, the sixth grader heard his dad's name announced as a special guest.
Little did the boy know, his father had been waiting patiently outside the door for the opportune moment, a surprise long in the making.
With applause, Diego ran to his dad and embraced, and you can hear the boy's happy screams as they hug.
"Definitely the definition of happiness," said Dominic.
"I thought my heart was going to explode!" Diego said.
Dominic credits his wife for being the glue that made all this possible while he was away.
