Getting sick or feeling ill isn't out of the ordinary for many of us. Usually, feeling a little unwell means suffering a cold or allergies. However, sometimes seemingly common symptoms can lead to a more serious illness, like various kinds of cancers or chronic diseases.
In the case of Bane Adams, a little knee pain became quite a serious matter. A year ago, he complained about the pain, which was so debilitating that he couldn't walk.
What he and his mom thought were growing pains put him in the hospital for at least six weeks and led to him visiting doctors of all kinds. They diagnosed him with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, which causes his muscles and other connective tissues to become elastic.
Now, 15 years old and a year after that diagnosis, Bane is stuck in bed and can't go outside to play. His muscles simply gave up, and his eyesight gave out.
All he wants is to get better and to go out and play with his friends, but doctors have not yet been able to pinpoint exactly what is wrong with him.
Despite this, he and his family remain positive, believing that there is a specialist out there who can help him get better. The more they are able to talk about his ordeal, the more they believe that their message will reach the right person.
The Adams are hoping that, by telling Bane's story, people will recognize his illness and reach out to them with answers.
