George Liberatore is no stranger to a healthy lifestyle. He's a member of Anytime Fitness, a gym in Germantown, Wisconsin.
But what George didn't know was that his next workout session would change his entire life.
The 72-year-old hopped onto an elliptical and quickly settled into his routine. Suddenly, he started seeing strange flashes around him.
In the video below, posted on February 15, 2017, George explains, "A white splash of light went through my eyes."
George collapsed onto the floor without any warning and had no pulse and no heartbeat. He was lying beneath the workout equipment, lifeless.
Unable to recall anything after his cardiac arrest, he says, "The next thing I remember actually was being loaded into the ambulance."
A stranger named Brittany Sabin, who was running on a nearby treadmill, saw George and jumped into action.
"Right away, I didn't even think twice, that's just… you go help," says the modest nurse at Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
She found a stranger willing to help with the emergency situation and taught them how to perform CPR with her.
"You go two inches deep and you go to the snap of my finger," she explains, recalling her instructions. "And I was doing the snap of the finger, we sing the song 'Stayin' Alive' and that's how he did it."
She was able to get George's heart beating again after a nerve-racking five minutes. Because of this scary ordeal, Brittany has made it her mission to tell other people how important it is to be CPR certified.
"And that young lady is just my angel," a thankful George says. "No question about it. … I can't thank her enough. She saved my life and she will always be in my heart."
