London has been enduring Storm Doris, which has caused dangerously high winds in the area. A 96-year-old woman was caught in the 60 mph winds.
Fearing for her life, the woman (who was later identified as Joanie) clung onto a lamppost. No one would help. In fact, people were seen just walking by the frightened granny.
However, 25-year-old Dan Barnett happened to see Joanie. His office overlooks the area. Once he saw her, Dan knew he had to go out and help.
"Our office overlooks the high street, and I saw the lady clinging on, so I rushed out to help. I said, 'Are you all right? Do you need a hand?' and her eyes lit up as she said 'Yes, please,'" Dan recalled to Daily Mail.
All she needed was a little assistance getting home, but no one would give her the time of day.
"She told me her name was Joanie and she'd only popped out for a pint of milk and some Werther's Originals, but she got out of breath in the wind," Dan said.
His colleagues were so taken aback but Dan's gesture that they filmed it from their office window. Dan walked the woman all the way home. Joanie visited a few days later to thank him with a box of chocolates.
Too often we lose our sense of community and don't look out for our most vulnerable members of society. Dan's small token of help demonstrates how meaningful it is when we take the time to help each other.
