Parents Call Baby ‘Rapunzel’ For Her Long Hair, But Mole Covering Half Her Head Is The Cause

When Lylah Fairless was born, she arrived with a head of long, dark hair that confused her mother and father, Ashley and Ian.

While it's not unheard of for babies to born with a full head of hair, doctors noticed a large, dark mole covering half of the back of her head, from which the hair was growing.

Upon further examination of the mole, the doctors determined that it could turn into a melanoma that could in turn cause cancerous tumors that could be deadly before she would even present symptoms.

Now, the little girl in undergoing multiple surgeries, including one to insert breast implant type pouches under her hairline, and the family is asking for help.

She is now four years old, and has spent her whole life thus far trying to get well. Though she is not out of the woods, she only has a few more surgeries before her risk of a cancer diagnosis is significantly decreased.

The mole itself can cause a melanoma, which can lead to deadly brain tumors. The growths would kill her faster than how long it would take for her to show symptoms.

The only treatment for Lylah is to have skin expanders placed under her hairline, which would then be filled with fluid. This procedure isn't unlike using breast implants.
