When Renee and Nick got pregnant with their second child, they were absolutely overjoyed. They went to get their first ultrasound at 18 weeks. However, everything changed at that appointment.
In the video below posted on March 1, 2017, Renee explains: "The doctors were telling me, 'Well, you're going to have to prepare for her birth.' First, she came in and told me that my baby had cystic hygroma, which is a fluid-filled sac right behind her head. Then, she told me the baby had some issues with her heart and her kidneys."
Eventually, the Arbias' doctors confirmed the couple's worst nightmare: The unborn baby had Turner's syndrome, a condition where females are missing an X chromosome.
At that point, the Arbias learned that their baby had a 1 percent chance of surviving and making it to birth. What would happen next was unpredictable.
They had a huge decision to make. Would they terminate the pregnancy or keep going in hopes that their growing girl would make it through as a miracle baby?
The family decided to progress with the pregnancy, but still remained cautious of the possible outcome. They kept the pregnancy a secret, didn't accept baby gifts from those who knew, and didn't decorate their unborn child's nursery. They didn't want to get their hopes too high.
Then, something astonishing happened in the unfinished nursery. Nick says, "There were times in that room when I saw — when I could just feel her say, 'Don't give up on me, Daddy.'"
Those words led the couple and their miracle baby, Imogen, to keep fighting on.
