Joseph Simmons' life could have played out very differently if it weren't for the valiant actions of two strangers on a California canyon road.
The 31-year-old was driving by the Kern River Canyon when he got into an accident and crashed his car. It quickly went up in flames with him still sitting inside, fearing the worst.
In the video below, posted on March 21, 2017, a woman named Sharon Vise says that she screamed for people to come help as she went to the car where she saw Joseph struggling in his vehicle. She and another Good Samaritan worked together to pull the driver out.
“There’s no way to repay you,” Gale tells Sharon, but she ensures him it isn’t necessary and that she wasn’t the only hero that day. She says that there were a few other people who risked their lives to get Joseph out of the flaming car that day.
On the day he is released from the hospital, Joseph is told he has a special visitor and they meet for the first time since the crash. As the crash survivor is rolled out of Kern Medical Center with his injuries still visible, his eyes meet his visitor, the stranger named Sharon, who changed his life forever, in the best way possible.
Joseph explains, "I only had a couple seconds left before my life was over, so I’m pretty thankful that I had some people coming out of the canyon at the same time or else I might not be here talking today."
