Janet Faircloth Kentros of Boston knew exactly whom to blame for her lost class ring.
“He had it on his key chain and lost his keys,” she told WBZ-TV. “So the ring was gone, as far as we were concerned, forever.”
Back in 1971, her boyfriend lost it.
Now, 45 years is a long time, but it's not forever.
And that's how long it took for the class ring to find itself back in the hands of Janet.
Amazingly, a class ring was found at the new track behind Bishop Fenwick High School, and upon seeing the year on the ring, school staff decided to start digging through the yearbook from 1971.
They used the initials engraved on the ring to seek out anyone who they thought could possibly be the owner of the ring.
And it was then that they came across the page with Janet's face on it. They decided to contact her about the ring.
"When I went down and looked at the inside of the ring and saw 'JMF,' those are my initials, and I knew right away it was mine," she said.
Janet appreciates the effort the staff made, saying they were so excited to return it to her.
And whatever happened to that boyfriend, the one who lost the ring in the first place?
"That boyfriend has now been my husband for 42 years so he's off the hook now," Janet said.
