Sherwood, Arkansas, 8-year-0ld Jayda Bell was in the passenger's seat with her big sister, Kindalynn Williams, driving and her baby niece in the back. Suddenly, Kindalynn began to have a seizure in the middle of the highway while she was at the wheel.
“I was terrified. I was confused. I didn’t know what was happening,” Jayda Bell recalled.
Jayda was frightened but not deterred. She quickly pushed her sister's foot down on the brake pedal. The 8-year-old managed to put the car in neutral just by guessing. Instinctually, she pulled her 2-year-old niece from out of her carseat and into safety.
The little girl noticed the car was still rolling. Jayda bravely used her back to push it back to stop it.
“My back still hurts from that,” Jayda said.
When Jayda felt like she got control of the situation, she called 911. The operator, Cody Harvey, was concerned that Jayda would be too young to understand, boy, was he wrong.
“I’m really impressed with how smart and calm she stayed,” said Cody Harvey.
Jayda's actions and quick thinking saved three lives that day, even the local police were stunned by heroism.
“I called a buddy of mine and said ‘Hey, I met a hero, she’s eight,'” said Sherwood Police officer Scott Glidewell.
