Mama Dog Goes Into Labor — But After The 11th Puppy, Owner Realizes The Vet Was Wrong

When Lisa Wardle found out her dog, Poppy, was pregnant with her first litter, she was very excited.

Lisa, 40, lives in the U.K.; has had her sweet dog for a few years.

Poppy is an Irish setter. Lisa loves the breed so much that she decided it would be right for Poppy to have puppies.

Poppy is good-natured, Lisa says, and she wanted other families to be able to experience the joy of having an Irish setter.

When Poppy got pregnant, Lisa took her to the vet, who told her that Poppy was pregnant with eight to 10 puppies.

Lisa got herself and Poppy ready for the arrival of the little pups, taking time off work to be there to support her dog through labor.

But neither she nor the dog were prepared for what happened when she started giving birth.

Irish Setter Poppy is such a friendly dog that her owner Lisa knew she had to spread the love to other families.

Lisa decided to breed Poppy, hoping to bring to others the same joy she'd felt since owning Poppy.

When Poppy got pregnant with her first litter, the vet told Lisa that there would probably be eight to 10 puppies, which is average for Irish setters.

When Poppy went into labor, Lisa was at her side to welcome the first puppy.

Lisa and her daughter Abi took turns watching over Poppy, caring for her throughout her long delivery.

After many hours of labor, Poppy finally had her tenth puppy. Lisa and Abi thought they would all get a chance to relax.

However, Poppy wasn't done.

She continued pushing, birthing pup after pup until she finally lay down to rest.

There were 15 puppies in total!

Lisa was shocked. She knew that Poppy would have a big litter, but she never expected her to have 15 puppies.

Abi loved the pups so much that she decided to adopt one. She'll take the puppy home after it's ready to be weaned from Poppy.

As for the rest of the puppies? Lisa is hoping to find good homes for all of them — she wants to make sure they all have loving families.

If it were up to Lisa, though, the pups might never leave.

"I'll be heartbroken when they're all gone," she told The Dodo. "I thought about keeping them, but I think my husband would kill me."
