Teenager Is Only One In The Room That Can Save Unconscious Man

Paul Minton was shopping at a Target in Oklahoma City last year, when suddenly he fell to the ground, unconscious. As fate would have it, 16-year-old Riley Hinman saw the collapsed man in the store, lying on the floor, motionless.

Riley quickly jumped into action. She had just learned CPR in a babysitting class. No one else knew the lifesaving technique, so this older man's life was placed in the hands of a teen.

The young woman was successful. Paul survived the ordeal thanks to Riley stepping up in an intense situation.

“It's very important to learn that because you might think that someone else will know it, but walking into that situation, I was the only one who knew it,” Riley said.

The American Heart Association reunited the two for the first time in a year. Paul was brought to tears at meeting the person who gave him a second chance at life.

“It's incredible that such a young lady stepped up and took control of the situation,” Paul told KOCO 5 News.

Riley hopes that others will be inspired to take a CPR class after realizing that the skill can literally change a life.

“I have changed someone's life or affected their life in any sort of small way. It's very overwhelming, definitely,” Hinman said.
