When you ask for your check at a restaurant, you usually know what to expect. However, when Ron Brophy encountered an old, tattered check at Nico Bella's Family Restaurant in Providence, Rhode Island, he was absolutely stunned.
"We were picking up all the debris from the walls we tore down from the bathroom and I saw this piece of paper," Ron said.
Ron, a carpenter, was working on a renovation to a portion of the restaurant when he made the startling find.
The guest check was actually a letter, and it was dated 1982.
What was even more stunning was the fact that the letter was written by a teenager about the restaurant itself.
It read: "My name is Tracie. I am 13 years old. My mother bought this restaurant when I was five. Now she is selling it. So I grew up in this restaurant and I think I'm losing my best friend. Remember me, the year is 1982 and it is September. Goodbye Duck Soup, I love you, please take care of yourself."
Duck Soup was the name of the restaurant when Tracie's mom owned it.
Now, Ron is trying to locate Tracie, and he hopes other people keep an eye out for hidden treasures such as the guest check he found.
The restaurant's current owners, Daniel and Debbie Crenca, hoped that Tracie would come forward once the story got to her. Little did they know that Tracie was indeed aware of the situation!
