On April 5, at 9:15 in the morning, Joyce Mullis was just finishing up attending mass at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Memphis, Tennessee.
"All of a sudden, we heard a loud boom," she said.
Right outside the church, Joyce and a few other witnesses heard a loud banging noise, and the commotion forced them to leave the church and investigate.
Inside, Kevin O'Kelly, who works at the church, heard the noise as well.
He went out and saw the terrifying scene before him.
There was an overturned Honda Civic in the middle of the street, right in front of the church. And inside the car, the driver, a woman, was trapped.
"When the seat came down she was in between the two seats… her head was where the armrest should be," Kevin said.
Bravely, Kevin rushed into action, prying the woman's door open and freeing her from the car before first responders finally arrived on the scene.
Apparently, the woman crashed into a parked car, and the force flipped her car, which then crashed into an incoming SUV, spinning her car around on its hood.
Amazingly, and thanks to the actions of Kevin, the woman sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was otherwise coherent and aware of the situation. The driver of the SUV was not injured.
