Marilyn Harper, who cares for her three great-grandchildren, was horrified when a windstorm totaled her home. It completely ripped the roof off the mobile home unit.
CBS 7 reported the incident, which caught the eye of Abernathy Construction's owner, Daniel Abernathy, and his apprentice, Joe Rodriguez. The two men showed up at Marilyn's home ready to work for free.
"I'm not here just to make a dollar. If somebody's in need,I'm gonna be there to try to do what I can do," Daniel said.
Marilyn was floored by the gesture. It completely changed her outlook on things, and she thanked them with tears in her eyes.
"Oh, he don't know how much I appreciate it, from the bottom of my heart. I really appreciate it. And it's put a different light in me, a hope," she said.
The Good Samaritans worked tirelessly to place a temporary roof on the home, which will keep the home safe for a little while. Then they will work together to construct a brand new roof for the family.
"If you ever see somebody in the street that needs any help or has any sort of need, find out what you could do for them because your helping hand will leave them feeling good, and wanting to help someone else is just a chain reaction," Joe said.
