Young Woman Snaps A Selfie, Then Writes An Emotional Love Letter To Her Thighs

With all the pressure from celebrities and the media for women to be thin, fit, and perfect, many women feel insecure about their bodies.

Body image standards have changed throughout the years, but the idea that there is one "ideal" body type has existed for centuries.

The problem with this "ideal" body type? Almost nobody naturally looks like that. With Photoshop and lighting tricks, almost all the images of women who are supposed to be "perfect" are altered anyways.

Unfortunately, that means that many women have unrealistic expectations for their bodies. The women in the media who always look perfect have full-time hair and makeup and clothing stylists, as well as on-call fitness trainers.

Fortunately, in the past few years, women everywhere have started fighting against the idea that there's one type of perfect body.

Women (and men) have started promoting body positivity, encouraging people to love their bodies for what they can do, not how they look.

One woman, Sharline Eae, knows that her thighs don't look like models' or actresses' thighs — and she's fine with that.

Recently, Sharline posted a photo on Instagram that got a lot of attention.

Sharline, who normally wears workout/yoga clothes in her photos, shared a picture in which she is wearing a dance leotard. Along with the photo, she wrote a touching note.

Dear Thighs,

I'm in love with you, every inch, every lump, all the way from my knees to my rump.

You may not be slender, or tanned, or smooth, but you’re up for the challenge when I start to move.

You power through squats, lunges, and stairs, and you don't seem to mind when some people glare…

This whole journey to body acceptance and self-love is kind of a roller coaster, but an exciting one that I’m gonna keep riding.

Each day I am learning that my self-worth is based less on what others think and more on how I feel.

And lately, I feel really good.

I was realizing today that my body is becoming less of an object of comparison in my mind, and more of a tool.

My body is a method of accomplishing day to day things and that's it.

So far, it's doing a d*mn good job.

In fact, it rarely lets me down.

So for that reason alone, I should be completely in love with that.

So to my thighs and all my other perfectly strong and functioning body parts, thank you for getting sh*t done. <3
