Man Wants To Fix Roof Himself, But Home Depot Worker Notices His Shaky Hands

Jim Sansone is the kind of guy who fixes things himself. So when his house suffered wind damage and he had to replace the fascia on his roof, he figured he would do it himself.

He needed it to do it soon too. It was going to rain again and he had to act quickly before there was even more damage to the roof.

While Sansone is used to playing handyman, since he retired, one thing has changed. He's been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. His body just isn't what it used to be.

When he walked into Home Depot, the store manager, Jim Conley, began to chat Jim up. Then he noticed his hands, Sansone had the shakes. It would be downright dangerous to let a man in his position climb up a ladder.

“He was on chemo. He had the shakes, he would fall down periodically,” Conley said. “Right then, we knew we had to get somebody out there for him.”

Conley sent two workers to Sansone's house to do the repairs, completely replace the fascia, and inspect his home for more damage. The procedure took about 20 minutes, but for Home Depot it barely cost them anything. However, Sansone was left in tears.

“I feel it in my heart. I know that in my heart and in my head… there are good people in this world,” Sansone said. “They shook my hand… and said ‘Have a nice day, Jim’…and went back to work. I just couldn’t believe it."

Sometimes it's not about how much you do, it's about what you can do.
