In 1963, Bruce Brooks separated from the mom of his two sons. Over time, he lost track of the boys. He didn't see either of them in 54 years, though he eventually tried to find them again.
"I'd gotten to the point where I was just about to give up," Bruce said. "Now I have a purpose for being here."
In Thanksgiving of 2016, Bruce received an unexpected surprise that set him on a course toward the reunion he had been looking forward to for more than five decades.
A woman reached out to him on Facebook. It was the daughter he never knew he had.
She found him in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and with her help, he began to reconnect with his son, Tony Peoples.
Tony lives in Portland, Oregon. He agreed to meet with his dad at the airport.
"Excited and nervous," Bruce said before meeting his son, as seen in the video below. "I can hardly stand here. My knees are shaking."
The meeting was set at Eppley Airfield on April 20, 2017.
Hundreds of people passed by in the airport, with Bruce breathing deeply. He scanned the crowd until finally, he saw his son walking up the path.
