April Pope and her family went for a morning walk on Easter. That's when she spotted a deflated balloon outside her home. It may seem a bit silly to some, but for April it meant something special.
April inspected the balloon, which read, "Hello, from all the way in Cisco, TX."
The balloon had traveled 1,000 miles to Eaton, Ohio, in just two days. So who sent it? The balloon was from a Texas eighth grader named Avery Lewis. April posted the image on Facebook and within minutes she was connected with the little girl's mother.
Avery had decided to send a balloon out into the universe for good luck before trying out for the cheerleading squad. (She made it, of course.)
“It still had plenty of helium in it. She wrote the message in Sharpie marker and she let it go," Avery's mom, Lynsey Lewis, said. "It got stuck on the tree in our front yard right away, on its journey up, but it finally made it out of the tree and it went on its way.”
The incident connected the two families, who are in touch now.
“For it to go that far in two days is just amazing,” said April. "We couldn’t believe the writing was so legible.”
Sometimes something as simple as a little girl's good luck balloon can bring families hundreds of miles away together. Who knew?!
