The only thing that can hurt just as much as not being able to see or be with a loved one is having them not recognize you when you finally do reunite with them.
Such was the case in the video below, where a grand reunion was almost derailed, solely because one of the individuals involved didn't recognize the other.
Well, didn't recognize him at first — just wait until you see when they finally do!
Filmed in Sanford, North Carolina, the man in the video sitting on the bench outside had just returned home from a long hospital stay.
His beloved dog, Willy, missed him a lot.
So, the man began to call Willy over by his name.
The excited pup, upon hearing his name, ran across the grass, but when he saw the man on the bench, his beloved dad, he stopped short.
Willy didn't recognize him. Apparently, it had been such a long time apart that the poor pup had forgotten, but he didn't run away. Instead, he barked at the man and paced back and forth.
It was almost as if he recognized his dad's voice, but just couldn't make out his face.
The man waited patiently on the bench.
Finally, Willy, very hesitant, crawled closer, sniffing the man as he did so.
