CVS Pharmacist Notices Man In Distress, Then Sees Swollen Tongue And Whips Out EpiPen

We often associate food allergies to young children, as it was at a young age when many of us were diagnosed with them. Our parents made sure the foods we were allergic to were never in our lunches or in any other meals we had, as allergic reactions can be very dangerous, even life-threatening.

But occasionally, a cautionary tale reminds us that food allergies can also develop later in life. It's not uncommon for a middle-aged individual to suddenly become allergic to a food they previously frequently enjoyed. This was the case of 57-year-old Mark Davey, who was caught 0ff-guard by a very serious reaction.

He noticed his tongue swelling while eating his lunch, and immediately knew something bad was happening.

He drove himself to a CVS looking to buy some over-the-counter medication to treat the allergic reaction, though in his mind he thought that this was how he was going to die. Then a pharmacist behind the counter saw him and realized that his situation needed medical attention. She called 911 and administered an EpiPen injection herself.

By the time paramedics arrived on the scene, they knew the pharmacist had saved the man's life: if she had waited until they arrived, the man likely would not have survived.

Now, Mark carries an EpiPen around at all times. His scary story of survival reminds everyone that dangerous food allergies can strike at any time, at any age.
