Vicki Kleiner always knew she was adopted. She asked her mom and dad what happened to her birth parents, and they told her the same story over and over again: her birth father died a month before she was born, and her mom died in childbirth.
The adopted daughter lived for 55 years believing this. Then, the state of New Jersey passed a law allowing adoption records to be unsealed, and she couldn't resist looking into her past.
She found out a lot about her birth family, namely that she had a long-lost sister, and that her adoptive parents had lied to her: With three other kids in their care, her biological parents simply couldn't afford to have her, so they gave her up.
But this fact didn't stop Vicki from reaching out to her older sister, Karen. The two connected in January, and haven't stopped bonding since.
Now, Karen says that Vicki is the first person to send her a text in the morning! She says she even plans to bring Vicki to their family reunion — and her newfound sister is totally up to meeting all the family members she never knew existed.
What a wonderful reunion. Although it may have occurred later in their lives, it's better late than never!
